When a beloved pet faces a sudden medical emergency, families are often overwhelmed by fear, uncertainty, and impossible financial decisions. The Glenn & Jean Harnett’s Initiative for Companions in Crisis, Urgency Program (HICCUP) exists to step in during those fragile moments when a family’s stability is shaken by an unexpected veterinary crisis. Life-threatening conditions can escalate quickly, leaving pet owners feeling helpless. HICCUP provides critical emergency assistance so that treatment decisions are guided by medical need rather than financial limitation.

HICCUP exists to:

  • Prevent unnecessary euthanasia due to financial hardship
  • Reduce owner surrenders related to treatable medical conditions
  • Keep pets safely in their homes
  • Support responsible pet ownership within our community

How Assistance Works

  • Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship.
  • Funding is provided directly to participating veterinary clinics.
  • Assistance is typically partial and may require a copay from the pet owner.
  • The program does not cover elective procedures or non-urgent care.
  • Funding availability is limited and dependent upon program guidelines.

We work collaboratively with veterinary partners to ensure funds are used responsibly and strategically to create the greatest possible impact.
